Application instructions

Application periods for grants are during 1.1. - 15.2. every year.
A grant application and its attachments must be submitted to the Foundation by 15.2. as follows:

  1.  BOTH as a single printed copy of the online application  signed (by management of the place of research and the applicant), dated and delivered by post;
  2.  AND as an online file by logging in to the Foundation’s website ("Kirjaudu sisään") and sending the application online.

Write concisely,  focus on the essentials – what makes this specific research special and meritorious.

A personal grant must be used personally by the applicant. A research team leader may apply for a grant for the team to be paid out as salary, but a personal grant cannot be further awarded to a team member.

You can only apply for a travel grant for a specific congress and an awarded travel grant cannot be transferred to another congress. A travel grant for a single event may not be awarded to more than one applicant on each research team. No unused travel grant money may be used for other purposes; instead, the latter half of an awarded travel grant will only be payable upon submission of a report, a poster (or an abstract) and receipts (half will be paid out on 15 May). Receipts must provide evidence of payments made. The report should include a bill of costs.

Each application form can only be used to apply for one type of grant. If you are applying both for a research grant and a travel grant, for example, you should fill in a separate application for each one. If you only intend to start using the grant between 1 January and 30 April in the year following the year of application, please indicate this clearly in the ‘Purpose of grant’ section of your application. As a general rule, you should start using the grant during the year of award.

Fill in the application online and the completed application will be sent on to the Foundation. An option to save drafts while working on the application has been made available on the application page. You can also request the Foundation to delete the application if your application is in any way deficient and you need to start a new one. After filing your application, you can view the status of your application and the Foundation’s decision and provide your payment details by logging in to the Foundation’s website. Once you have used the grant, reporting will take place as part of the same service as a continuation of your approved grant application.

The signed grant application must arrive at the Foundation no later than on 15 February. If this falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the application must arrive on the preceding Friday.

Post a printed, dated and signed copy of the application to the Foundation. We will compare the time stamps on your electronic and posted applications and these are required to match. Applications that have only been submitted electronically will not be processed. No supplementary information will be requested for incomplete applications. A separate form should be completed for each research project/grant type. Applications will not be returned.

In the event of problems, you can request the General Secretary to send the application form as a file by calling 0400 824 438. In such cases, you should send the application to the Foundation as an e-mail attachment and as a signed copy by post.
